 INTERSURF INTERNET CONNECTIONS!

Three years ago the MLS contracted with a new MLS Vendor, at the time called Moore Data now called VistaInfo, for MLS computer services.  At the same time in order to increase the number of concurrent connections from the 26 allowed on the old system, to 50+ on the new system we contracted with a local company called Intersurf for modems that allowed you to connect to the MLS server.  This connection looked like an Internet connection, but did not allow you to “surf” the Internet.  It only allowed you to reach the MLS server.  If you had your own Internet connection (AOL, MSN, Cox @ Home, AT&T, EATEL, etc.) you could also reach the MLS server and “surf “ the web.  You could also send MLS listing information to clients and customers by e-mail.  If you only used the Intersurf MLS connection this e-mail option was not available.

In the three years since the cut over to the new system, we have encourage and advised all of you to begin connecting to MLS using your own Internet Service Provider (ISP), the one you use to “surf” the world wide web.  This gave you options, such as increased speed and e-mail, which were not available on the Intersurf/MLS connection.  Many of you have made the move to faster connections and the usage of the Intersurf/MLS connection has dwindled to less than 80 users out of 1,500.

Effective the end of this month, the Intersurf/MLS connection will no longer be available to connect to MLS.  You will have to use your own ISP connection to reach MLS.  Most of the current Intersurf/MLS connection users probably have their own ISP, but just have not made the change in PC Access to use their own ISP.  CLICK HERE for instructions on how to change the settings in PC Access version 4.3 to access MLS using your own ISP.

If you do not have your own ISP, you will have to make arrangements to get one by the end of this month.  You might as well bite the bullet now and get connected to the Internet because on the new MLS system that will cut over in March 2002 you will have to have your own ISP to connect to the MLS server.  We strongly recommend that if you are a heavy user of the MLS you use one of the higher speed connections such as a cable modem or digital subscriber line (DSL) -- these a little more expensive, but worth it.  If you have any questions about a specific ISP you may be considering, please feel free to contact Ken Damann at (225) 761-2000.
